Before your PAN, Aadhaar, passport or driving licence goes to a broker, hotel or employer, stamp it: "For ABC Realty rental agreement only · 25 Oct 2026". A copy that names its purpose is much harder to misuse.

This PDF is password-protected. e-Aadhaar uses the first 4 letters of your name in capitals + birth year (e.g. RAHU1990); e-PAN uses your date of birth as DDMMYYYY. The password is used only in this browser tab.

Naming the company makes it stronger: "For ABC Realty rental only".

Why a plain ID copy is risky
An unmarked photocopy of your PAN or Aadhaar works for anyone who holds it. Copies collected for one purpose — a flat rental, a gym membership, a job form — have been reused for SIM cards and loan applications the owner never applied for. Writing the purpose across the copy is the long-standing advice for self-attested copies, and doing it digitally makes it neater and harder to remove than a pen scrawl.

Tiled repeats the text diagonally across the whole page, so it crosses your photo and every line of text. It's the hardest to crop or edit away, and the best default. One line puts a single large diagonal stamp across the middle — cleaner, if the office complains about readability. Band adds a solid strip across the centre with the text in it; use it on a light document where a faint watermark would be missed.
Want to hide part of your Aadhaar number as well? Use Mask Aadhaar first — it can also add this watermark. To hide your PAN on Form 16, salary slips or statements, use Hide PAN. For other sensitive details, see Redact PDF.
Frequently asked questions
A plain copy of your PAN, Aadhaar or passport can be reused for something you never agreed to, such as another SIM card or loan application. A watermark that names the recipient, purpose and date makes that copy far less useful for anything else, and shows where it came from if it turns up later.
Who it is for, what for, and the date. For example: "Submitted to ABC Realty for flat rental only", with today's date. Be specific — "For KYC only" is better than nothing, but naming the company is much stronger.
Keep the opacity low enough that your name, photo and number stay readable, and most offices accept it. Some official processes, such as certain bank or government submissions, want an unmarked copy; check before you send.
Not easily. The output is flattened into an image, so the watermark is part of the pixels rather than a separate layer, and the tiled style crosses the photo and every line of text. No watermark is impossible to edit out, but this makes it a lot of effort.
Yes. Add both photos and turn on "Put all images on one A4 page". They are stacked on a single page, which is how most offices want an ID copy anyway.
No. Everything happens in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
