Split scanned book pages into single pages

Scanned books, bound logbooks, and academic papers are often digitized as wide, landscape pages — each one an open two-page spread instead of a single page. That's fine for reading on a large screen, but it makes text hard to read on phones, breaks copy-paste, and won't paginate correctly if you print it.

This tool finds the natural gutter (the blank strip down the middle where two book pages meet) and cuts each spread into two separate pages, re-ordered so the file reads correctly from start to finish — a 50-page scanned book becomes a proper 100-page single-page PDF.

Real page cropping, not image conversion: the split uses pdf-lib to crop the actual PDF content — vector text, fonts, and graphics are preserved exactly. Nothing is rasterized into a flat image, so text stays selectable and sharp at any zoom level.

After splitting, you might want to rotate any sideways pages, merge the result with another file, or compress it for email.
