Portal / document typeTypical cap
State e-district certificate uploadsOften 150–250 KB
University admission document uploadsCommonly 200–500 KB
Bank KYC / address-proof uploadsFrequently 200 KB–1 MB
Photo/signature on exam application formsUsually much stricter (50–100 KB) — try our 100KB page
General multi-page scanned applicationOften more generous (1 MB+) — see our 1MB page

Why 200KB is a comfortable middle ground

At 200KB, a single scanned page can usually keep enough resolution (around 150 DPI) that signatures, stamps, and small print stay legible — unlike 100KB, where those details are often the first casualty. A plain-text document of 10-20 pages fits with room to spare. If your portal's instructions just say "under 200KB" without more detail, this preset is the safer default: enough headroom for a real scan, small enough to clear most caps.
